Congratulations to the 2018 Shining Star Honoree – Senator Mike McGuire

Senator Mike McGuire, a North Coast lawmaker and rising political leader who has earnestly supported 4-H and farm youth, is the 2018 recipient of the Shining Star Award.

McGuire personally donates time and money to the foundation.  Each summer, the Senator showcases 4-H and FFA projects at his summer fund raiser.

McGuire was elected to the California Senate in 2014 to represent the North Coast.  Before being elected a state senator, he served four years as a Sonoma County Supervisor and previously was a member of the Healdsburg City Council and the city’s mayor.  He grew up in Healdsburg where his family farmed prunes in the Alexander Valley.  He was a  member of the Future Farmers of America, an experience that shaped his values and appreciation for agriculture and farm youth.

2018 4-H Alumni Honoree – Doug Beretta

Congratulations to the 2018 4-H Alumni Honoree Doug Beretta!

Santa Rosa dairy farmer Doug Beretta, a former 4-H Club member who has emerged as one of the most influential and respected leaders on the Sonoma County farm front, is the 2018 recipient of the 4-H Alumni Recognition Award.

A third generation- Sonoma County dairy farmer, Beretta, 54, and his family own and operate an organic dairy in west Santa Rosa.  Four generations of the Beretta family work together on the 400 acre ranch to produce milk used for Wallaby organic yogurt.  The Beretta Dairy, which epitomizes a family farming operation, was named the 2018 Dairy of the year by the Sonoma County Fair.

Growing up, Beretta was a member of the Sunshine 4-H Club where he completed projects ind airy cattle and woodworking.  Project reports and demonstration presentations gave him confidence.  He said his 4-H experience was transformational, helping shape his values and channeling his path to leadership and community service.
